Bid and ask
The bid is the price you can sell at, the ask is the price you can buy at, and the ask is always the higher of the two.
A buy opens at the ask and closes at the bid. A sell opens at the bid and closes at the ask.
That is why a new position shows a small loss the moment it opens. It has not moved against you; you are seeing the gap between the two prices.
