Breakout

Price moving beyond a level or boundary that a chart reader had previously marked.

Breakouts can be defined by an intrabar trade beyond the boundary or by a candle close beyond it. A useful description states which rule and timeframe were used.

A daily close above a marked resistance area is a close-based breakout under that stated rule.

Price can return inside the boundary. A breakout label is not proof of continuation or profitability.
